This is a story of three brothers whom have not seen one another in a year, since their late father's funeral. They are rejoined by the eldest brother Francis(Owen Wilson), who decided they all needed to set out on a spiritual adventure together, but there is a secret of the true reason for their trip together that will become exposed later in the movie before attempting a ceremony. The youngest brother Jack(Jason Schwartzman) spends the beginning of the journey second guessing his own every move due to the fact he is not over his ex-girlfriend, played by Natalie Portman in the short prequal Hotel Chevalier. Peter(Adrien Brody) accepts his brother's invitation, although it become clear early on that he is running from problems of his own. The journey becomes a struggle for eash to make, although they will find their journey, and it may not be what they intended, but it will be a journey none the less, leaving an impact on each of them.
This film is Wes Anderson at his finest, his touch allows you to know this film will be inventive, fashion forward, and always quite unique. The Darjeeling Limited is the name of the train that will give our characters transportation on their great journey to become brothers again. The journey was made raw & exposed, showing all walks of life in India, depicting the wide range of people, and their customs. In doing so Wes Anderson, I believe, was able to depict the truth of the real world around him, instead of using a bunch of extras, and I applaud him for it.
